Friday- Fingerprint Art
For this TDC, I had to make art out of fingerprints.
I made a Divest banner. The colors I used were black/gray and orange because those are the colors of the divestment movement. There will be an open forum on divestment tomorrow at 3 pm in Dodd Auditorium. I used photoshop and a picture of a fingerprint with the clone stamp to create the image.
Saturday- One Color
For this TDC, we had to make a video of a color we saw frequently in our neighborhood. Because I was in George Washington Hall, my neighborhood was limited. The most frequent color in the area was brown, so I focused on brown objects. The song I used was Young Lions by Vampire Weekend. I chose this because the lyrics represent time, which is something I’ve been thinking about.
I was walking my dog around the block when an angry kid approached me. “Why are you doing that?” she asked. I looked around to see if I could tell who she was talking to. “They shouldn’t be dragged along on leashes!” the young girl shouted. I started to try to explain to her that it was illegal to walk your dog without a leash, but she cut me off- “I’m not talking to you, I’m talking to the dog!”
I tried to make the interaction weird and touching. I used the theme of child innocence to invert the social norm of assuming that we walk our dogs (instead of the other way around). I like it because it’s realistic yet otherworldly at the same time.
